Steven's life began on January 23, 1957 in Dowagiac, the son of Robert Mortimore, Sr. and Donna (VanVoorst) Mortimore. He was united in marriage to the former Joyce Starrett on November 19, 1977 in Dowagiac. Steven was employed by Thor Motor Coach in Elkhart. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Steven was a good handyman and carpenter. He loved to move doors and walls as he remodeled the house. Steven was a hardworking man but he always made time for his family and especially his grandchildren. His loving family includes his wife Joyce of Edwardsburg, his father Robert Mortimore, Sr. of Dowagiac, his children Carol (Mike) Weber of Tulsa, OK, Allen (Bobbi) Johnson of Elkhart, Lonny ( Laura) Johnson of Elkhart, Teresa (William) O'Sten of Palatka, FL, Lori (Danny) Moore of Quincy, IL, Donnie Johnson of Elkhart, Dawn ( Jason) Bucha of Dowagiac, Dee Dee (David) Ward of Dowagiac, Joanie Mortimore of Dowagiac, grandchildren Michael Weber, Doug Johnson, Stacie (Michael) Jeffers, Nick Johnson, Jami Johnson, Jacqueline (Bradley) Briggs, Jason Kowlson, Joe Kowlson, Kristi (Stephen) Swisher, Eric (Rochelle) Moore, Kerry Losey, Kori Johnson, Ryanna Johnson, Heather Combs, Kyle Ward, Katie Ward, Kaleb Detwiler, and Destini Wolfe, great grandchildren Shelby, Mike and Jenna Weber, Ellie Jeffers, Adam and Samantha Johnson, Montanna Briggs, Kellen Swisher and Riley Rocket, sisters Patricia (James) Hunter of Dowagiac, Angie (Dustin) Marciniak of Buchanan; brothers Robert (Deborah) Mortimore, Jr, of Cassopolis and Michael G. Mortimore of Dowagiac and several nieces and nephews. Steven passed away at his home on Saturday January 14, 2012. He is preceded in death by his mother Donna Mortimore and a brother Michael W. Mortimore. His family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Yazel & Clark Chapel where his funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. led by Larry Starrett. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the American Lung Association.
